About Marc

Marc Silver is a Philadelphia-based songwriter, guitarist, and mandolinist whose work blends the traditions of American folk, bluegrass, old-time music, jazz, and blues into songs that explore memory, love, history, and mortality. Influenced as much by literature as by music, his writing seeks to uncover the extraordinary within ordinary lives, weaving intimate personal stories with broader questions of family, place, and the passage of time.

A graduate of the jazz program at The University of the Arts, Marc began writing songs in 2005 and has since released eight albums of original music as both a solo artist and with his longtime band, The Stonethrowers. For nearly two decades, he has performed throughout the Northeast, appearing at venues and festivals including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Sellersville Theater, and Keswick Theatre, while sharing stages with many of today's leading Americana and bluegrass artists.

Marc's songs have also found audiences beyond the concert stage through placements in film and television, where his evocative songwriting and acoustic sound have been featured in a variety of productions.

His latest album, The Dark of Our Hymn, is a collection of songs that reflect on ancestry, queer love, grief, faith, and the stories we inherit. Rich with lyrical detail and acoustic textures, the record continues Marc's lifelong pursuit of songs that are both deeply personal and universally human.
